60 patients were examined as part of the client days dedicated to the prevention of skin cancer.
As part of this year’s Melanoma Day, we offered our clients the option to have their birthmarks and pigmented moles examined for a total of three days at the end of May at our Prague 4 and Prague 6 clinics. This offer to undergo a preventive skin examination was taken up by 60 patients.
The importance of prevention from the most malignant type of skin cancer (melanoma) as well as other skin tumors is clearly manifested by the results from previous years as well as this one. “We identified one case of a patient with basal cell carcinoma. Further, suspected moles were removed from six patients. Histological examinations fortunately did not test positive for melanoma, but these finds represented pigmented moles with significant abnormalities. Five patients had their moles photographed and documented which allows for their follow-up monitoring. Further patients were advised to have their entire skin surface photo-documented due to a great number of moles” said MUDr. Daniela Vaňousová, Ph.D, summarizing this year’s Melanoma Day results. All of the patients mentioned above will continue being monitored at frequent intervals to ensure their good health.
The vast majority of clients had skin their skin problems captured in time and for some, surgical removal was recommended in order to prevent any unnecessary future complications. The identified problems included seborrheic warts, fibromas as well as moles which can be bothersome or suffer from chronic irritation due to their location on the body.
The Melanoma Day event which is organized on yearly basis by dermatologists across Europe also serves as a warning against underestimating the importance of preventing skin cancer, which has been increasing in occurrence and affects an ever-growing number of young people. A twenty-minute examination with a skin doctor at our dermatology practice can save your life. To find out more, please consider reading our article titled “Why check your birthmarks?”
