Nutrilon infant formula Rrcall: How to identify affected products and when to seek medical advice
News22. 10. 2026
The Czech Ministry of Health has issued a warning that certain previously recalled Nutrilon infant formula products have reappeared on the market. The recall is due to the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin that can cause serious gastrointestinal symptoms in infants. Below is an overview of the affected products and recommendations on what to do if your child has consumed them.
Which products are affected by the recall?
The warning applies only to the following products with the specified best-before dates:
| Product | Best-before date |
|---|---|
| Nutrilon Profutura Duobiotik 1, 800 g | 10 March 2027, 13 May 2027, 5 November 2027 |
| Nutrilon Advanced 2, 800 g | 16 September 2026, 21 November 2026, 20 December 2026 |
| Nutrilon Advanced 2, 1 kg | 27 August 2026, 4 November 2026, 24 December 2026, 18 February 2027 |
If you have any of these products at home, check the exact product name, package size, best-before date and batch number. Compare these details with the latest list published by the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority (SZPI).The recall does not affect all Nutrilon products, only specific batches.
Why can the infant formula be dangerous?
The recall is due to the possible presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by certain strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus. This toxin can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
Symptoms usually develop within a few hours, typically within eight hours of consuming contaminated formula.
The greatest risk is dehydration caused by repeated vomiting or diarrhoea. Newborns and infants under six months of age are particularly vulnerable, as fluid loss and electrolyte imbalances can develop very quickly.
It is important to note that cereulide is heat-resistant. Boiling the formula or preparing it with hot water therefore does not make it safe.
What should you do if your child has consumed recalled formula?
If you discover that you have one of the affected products at home, follow these steps:
-
Stop using the formula immediately. Do not give it to your child, even if they have not experienced any symptoms.
-
Monitor your child's health. Pay particular attention to vomiting, diarrhoea, refusal to feed, unusual tiredness, irritability or changes in behaviour.
-
Provide a suitable alternative formula. Choose a product that is not affected by the recall. If you are unsure which alternative is appropriate, consult your paediatrician.
-
Keep the original packaging. If your child develops symptoms, also retain any remaining formula, as it may be useful for further investigation.
If your child has consumed recalled formula but has no symptoms, immediate medical attention is not automatically necessary. However, you should continue monitoring their condition and contact your paediatrician if you have any concerns.
When should you contact a paediatrician?
Contact a doctor as soon as possible if your child develops any of the following symptoms after consuming the affected formula:
-
Vomiting or diarrhoea
-
Refusal to feed or drink
-
Unusual drowsiness or irritability
-
Changes in normal behaviour
-
Any other unusual health symptoms
Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences repeated or severe vomiting, is unable to keep fluids down, produces significantly less urine, has a dry mouth or sunken fontanelle, or appears unusually lethargic.
If your child becomes unconscious, is unusually unresponsive or their condition deteriorates rapidly, call the emergency medical services on 155.
What information should you provide to the doctor?
When consulting your paediatrician, explain that your child may have consumed infant formula containing cereulide.
Prepare the product name and batch number, the time the formula was last given, the approximate amount consumed, and a description of any symptoms, including when they first appeared.
You should also tell the doctor whether your child is receiving breast milk, other infant formula or complementary foods.
What should you do with the recalled product?
If your child has not experienced any health problems, follow the manufacturer's or retailer's instructions for returning the product.
If your child develops symptoms, do not discard the original packaging or any remaining formula. These may help determine the cause of the illness.
If you suspect a connection between your child's symptoms and consumption of the product, you can also contact the relevant Regional Public Health Authority.
Where can you find up-to-date information?
The Czech Ministry of Health has warned that some previously recalled products have reappeared in retail outlets. Parents are therefore advised to check recently purchased packages as well.
The latest list of affected products and further recommendations are available on the websites of the Czech Ministry of Health and the Czech Agriculture and Food Inspection Authority.
