How Did CM’s Melanoma Day 2018 Go?
News30. 07. 2018 Dermatovenerology
Like every year, the Dermatology department of Canadian Medical took part in the global Melanoma Day event. Clients had the chance to have their skin examined for free at two of our branches – at Prague 4 in The Park and Prague 6 Veleslavín. Over 30 of our clients took advantage of this offer. The results of this year’s Melanoma Day were summarized by MUDr. Dita Sýkorová, a dermatologist at Canadian Medical.
As far as the findings go, we were fortunate to say that w did not identify any cases of melanoma or other skin tumors such as basalioma or spinalioma (squamous-cell carcinoma).
The majority of those examined had commonly occurring freckles, moles, birthmarks, skin growths and skin warts. Some had dysplastic nevi – atypical moles that should be monitored to avoid any possible complications in the future.
Approximately one fourth of the examined clients were recommended to undergo the removal of some of the affected tissue following the sunny season. In another fourth of our clients, we recommended a repeat visit soon in order to assess any potential changes that could occur.
The Melanoma Day is a yearly preventive event organized by dermatologists across Europe and the rest of the world. It is an important event with an aim to raise awareness about the dangers of this type of cancer.
Melanoma is considered one of the most aggressive cancers that are known to exist. Unfortunately, the last couple of years have seen an increase in its occurrence as well as a shift towards younger patients.
It should be said that the only successful treatment remains timely removal and diagnosis.
Frequent self-examination of the skin and preventive examinations also serve as a means to avoiding this deadly disease.
