Canadian Medical’s urology teams have joined a pilot programme aimed at early detection of prostate cancer in the Czech Republic. Prostate cancer, a common illness in the male population, affects more than 8,000 individuals annually, which represents a nearly three-fold increase over the past twenty years

The higher incidence of prostate cancer can be attributed not only to the ageing of the population, but also to an increase in regular preventive PSA screening among older men. Such screening has resulted in the identification of asymptomatic early-stage cancer that would have otherwise gone undetected. Approximately 1,500 men succumb to this disease every year, and there are currently more than 70,000 individuals with a history of this illness in the Czech population.

“With respect to the international recommendations emphasising an individualised approach to early detection of this type of cancer, we believe that this approach can be beneficial, whereas grey-zone screening could adversely impact the effectiveness and safety of the overall process,” says MUDr. Tomáš Chmelenský, chief urologist at Canadian Medical. Currently, there is no systematic programme for early detection of prostate cancer in the Czech Republic. Key components in diagnosing this disease are a carefully prepared medical history, evaluation of PSA levels and a subsequent basic urological examination, supplemented if needed with radiological diagnostic methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a prostate biopsy. Only a histological examination with a determination of the Gleason score and TNM classification provides a definitive diagnosis.

With careful consideration for our patients and a commitment to providing high-quality, premium care, our certified urology team is prepared to take care of our clients effectively.
