Professor Jan Marek, PhD, FESC is consultant paediatric cardiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and Professor of Cardiology at University College London and Charles University in Prague. He has been appointed at Canadian Medical in 2015 where he help patients with mainly congenital heart diseases from prenatal stage to adulthood.
Jan graduated from Charles University in Prague in 1984 and is trained as paediatric cardiologist in Prague, Houston, and Toronto. Since 1991 he has specialised in Paediatric and Prenatal Echocardiography and had contributed to establishing modern diagnostic imaging methods in several other countries worldwide. Jan also participated in developing nation-wide foetal cardiac screening program in the Czech Republic. In 2005 Jan was appointed as Clinical Lead Consultant for Echocardiography and Prenatal Cardiology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Honorary Professor of Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University College London.
Jan Marek completed five grants as principle investigator, he published one textbook as monograph and contributed to more than 250 per-review articles and 15 book chapters. Among others, Professor Marek is honorary member of Czech and Italian Society of Cardiology, he served as a chair or council member of numerous national and international learned societies worldwide. Jan is co-founder of Smart Heart Imaging and Teaching providing educational programs in cardiovascular imaging in Europe, North America and Asia, Jan also participates in charity missions under Chain of Hope founded and chaired by Sir Maghdi Yacoub. In 2018 Jan Marek was awarded by Silver Honorary Jan Masaryk Medal for outstanding contribution to developing Czech-British relations.
