Curriculum Vitae
This refers to adult outpatient endocrinology.
The field of endocrinology focuses on the functional and anatomical changes of hormonally active bodies, i.e. the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, and the sex glands (ovaries and testes). This concerns insufficient and excessive production of hormones, as well as inflammations, tumors, and genetic and developmental changes.
The most common theme is disease of the thyroid gland, which is affected in a large percentage of the population, and more in women. An ultrasound examination and biopsy of the thyroid gland is undertaken in our clinic for the purpose of making a cytological examination. Hyperprolactinemia is a common pituitary disorder, while less frequent are functional disorders of the corticosteroids, growth hormones and sex hormones. In regard to adrenal disorders, random findings of benign tumors (adenomas) are very common in which hormonal production and growth progression should be monitored. Adrenal hormones (aldosterone, cortisol) may contribute to hypertension that is difficult to treat.
