Reza Moridi Spent Two Days in Prague

Reza Moridi, the current Minister of Research, Innovation and Science of the Canadian province of Ontario  arrived to Prague on the 31st of August. He visited various research institutions, took part in an event organized by The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic as well as met Minister Lubomír Zaorálek.

Successful scientist and politician

Moridi was first elected as an Ontario legislator in 2007 as a member of the Provincial Parliament for Richmond Hill. He was reelected in 2011 and 2014.  He served as a Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. In the past, he also served as a Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities as well as a Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Research and Innovation.

For his contribution to the understanding of nuclear materials, radiation and health, he received the Education and Communication Award from the Canadian Nuclear Society. He was educated in Iran and the United Kingdom where he received gained his PhD. from Brunel University London.

Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Canada

Czech Republic and Canada will begin cooperating on specific research and innovation projects following the meeting of Reza Moridi with Pavel Bělobrádek, the Czech Deputy Prime Minister of Science, Research and Innovation. Merging industry and scientific talent is a shared problem for both countries. Ontario represents the most important research hub in North America following Silicon Valley and California. Miridi signed a memorandum on cooperation with the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic which is responsible for distributing governmental resources and funding to science and research. During his stay in the Czech Republic, he visited the Czech Technical University, Nuclear Research Institute Řež, Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI Beamlines), Biotechnology and Biomedicine Center of the Academy of Sciences (BIOCEV) and the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC).

On Thursday, August 31, Canadian Medical's CEO MUDr. Barbara Taušová was also present at the working lunch organized by The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic.
