Angiology and Venous Surgery
Angiology and Venous Surgery
Angiology is a specialized subfield of internal medicine (general medicine) which focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease as well as the entire circulatory system. In simpler terms, it is referred to as vascular medicine, or simply "vascular".
Some of the most common diseases associated with the vascular system which are treated as part of angiology include atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), aneurysm (bulging of the blood vessel wall) as well as developmental defects and malformations of the arteries (blood vessels). In terms of venous insufficiency, the most frequent diseases include venous insufficiency, venous malformation or thromboembolism (in cooperation with hematology).
