What botulin toxin is and how it works

It is a neurotoxin that temporarily blocks muscle function by deactivating the nerve endings that control muscles. Botulin toxin is applied by a doctor using a thin needle at precisely the given place that we want to influence, usually into muscle tissue.

The most common uses of botulin toxin

 Face:

• Reduction of wrinkles and fine lines – prevention of the formation of new wrinkles or at least restriction of the deepening of existing wrinkles.
• Smoothing of horizontal wrinkles on the forehead.
• Treatment of wrinkles between the eyebrows above the nose (glabella). Frown lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows) give the face an irritated, unpleasant expression.
• Crow’s feet, i.e. wrinkles on the outer corners of the eyes.
• Smoothing of wrinkles around the lips to improve the appearance of one’s smile.
• Reduction of eyelid drooping and eye fatigue by adjusting the position of the eyebrows.

The effect most commonly becomes apparent within 2-7 days following application and usually lasts 3-6 months.

Excessive sweating:

• Reduction of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) in areas such as the underarms, palms and soles.

Improvement is seen within 1-2 weeks following application and the effect usually lasts 7-12 months.

After procedure

• For four hours following treatment, do not touch the area of application, do not bend forward, do not bend backward and do not lie in a horizontal position.
• For one day after treatment, avoid physical strain and do not visit the tanning salon, sauna or places where there is a risk of overheating your body.
• For three days after treatment, do not undergo any cosmetic procedures (you can gently apply makeup six hours after application).

It is not necessary to have a doctor’s recommendation for treatment.
