Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Teplan, DrSc. has been awarded the Toshimitsu Niwa gold award at the 9^th International Congress on Uremia Research and Toxicity (ICURT 2016), which took place in Guadalajara, Mexico on March 16-19, 2016. The award was presented for very significant international scientific achievements concerning metabolic disorders and nutrition for patients with kidney disease or kidney transplants. The professor was nominated for this award during last year’s ICURT Congress in Okinawa and was required to meet stringent publishing and lecturing requirements. The award ceremony also included an honorary lecture. Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Teplan, DrSc. is currently the first and so far the only Czech who has been awarded this rare award.
