Lip augmentation
Article28. 08. 2018
The chosen lip augmentation method can be temporary or permanent.
The temporary method lasts for approximately six to eight months and then fades away. The lips can be enlarged using an injection of hyaluronic acid. This method does not require any recovery phase and is visible straight away.
A lasting method can involve the implantation of one's own fat tissue which is usually extracted from the buttocks, hips or the lower abdomen where there is generally a sufficient supply of fat. By using this method, there is no danger of the body's reaction to a foreign substance. This method produces more long-lasting effects and can last for a period of several years. Other surgical alternatives include the relocation of the mucous membrane from the oral cavity. This procedure leaves a very slight scar on the mucous membrane in the mouth. The effects are permanent.
How is the procedure carried out?
At the request of the client, the surgery is carried our under sedation or under local anesthesia. At the side of the lip where the mucous membrane is found, the tissue is relocated into the lip, resulting in an increase in volume and size of the lip. On the inner side of the lip, small scars will remain. However, these are not visible under normal circumstances (for example when speaking or eating).
Other options of a permanent procedure include the relocation of tissue from the lip into its top part. This is done at the expense of the skin immediately above the lip. The procedure involves local anesthesia. The purpose of this examination is the removal of several milimeters of skin in the red area of the lip and its relocation in its place.
How long does recovery take?
Recovery usually takes approximately two weeks. At the border of the inner tissue and the lip, a very mild scar will remain following the procedure.
