Petra Bomberová Kánská, Head of General Practice at Canadian Medical, understands the worry that comes when a patient wakes up with a fever at 3 a.m. It’s in these vulnerable moments that she finds herself most fulfilled-bringing peace of mind and focused attention to those in need. “What I love most about working at Canadian Medical is that we have the time to truly listen to our patients, understand their health comprehensively, and be part of a system that is efficient and caring,” she shares in the latest issue of Forbes.

Bomberová Kánská is a testament to how impactful supportive environments can be. Throughout her medical school journey, she maintained an active role, teaching and gaining valuable experience across various medical fields. “Although you can’t control everything in life, it’s so important to commit yourself fully to everything you do,” she reflects. “I’ve always tried my best, whether during exams or in patient care, because I believe that striving for a good outcome is what leads to inner peace.” Today, she gracefully balances many roles: a devoted mother of two young children, a dedicated practitioner at a busy rural clinic, and the compassionate head of general practice at Canadian Medical, where she has helped establish essential telemedicine services. “There isn’t a manual for juggling all of this,” she laughs, “but I have a ritual that keeps me grounded—I make it a point to mentally close out each day, ensuring I go to bed feeling calm.”

 A project for maternity leave

Bomberová Kánská joined Canadian Medical in 2019, just three months before the birth of her first daughter. Initially planning to be minimally involved with the telemedicine program during her maternity leave, she soon realized that as the field evolved—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic - her skills would be invaluable. Her dedication and hard work quickly led her to take on the role of leading the telemedicine department. She humbly attributes her success to the nurturing environment at Canadian Medical. “Our clinics really stand out because they accommodate doctors and specialists who can’t commit to full-time work—often parents of young children or those juggling other responsibilities. These individuals are incredibly driven, and it’s a joy to work alongside them, sharing our passion for patient care.” As Canadian Medical expands, with new clinics opening in Prague’s Pankrác district and Brno, the organization remains committed to cultivating a team of compassionate doctors who prioritize prevention, build trusting relationships with clients, and integrate innovative practices like telemedicine with traditional care.

Telemedicine at your fingertips

“Many health concerns can be effectively addressed over the phone or through our myCanadian app, proving that meaningful care can be accessible from anywhere,” explains Bomberová Kánská. For those moments when you wake up feeling unwell at 3 a.m., telemedicine can be a lifeline. “We’re available 24/7, so you can reach out to a doctor or connect through the app to discuss your symptoms. Our doctors are here to listen and guide you through your concerns.” Often, a simple reassurance like “Take some acetaminophen and see how you feel in the morning” is all a patient needs. When necessary, a coordinator can promptly set up a same-day appointment, sparing patients the distress of long waiting times. And if immediate action is required, Bomberová Kánská emphasizes the importance of clear communication: “If calling an ambulance is the best step, our doctors will explain why, ensuring patients have the necessary medical report or recommendation for their emergency room visit.”

Personalized and comprehensive care

At Canadian Medical, telemedicine is approached with genuine care and compassion. The team relies on a comprehensive medical database to ensure that doctors fully understand each patient’s health background. “Every doctor is allotted dedicated time to focus on their patients, even remotely. This attentive approach benefits everyone involved,” says Bomberová Kánská. With over 40 specialties available, Canadian Medical strives to meet clients’ needs throughout their healthcare journey, ensuring they receive timely and expert support. Coordinators handle the complexities of scheduling appointments, alleviating the burden on clients and allowing them to focus on their health and well-being.

Investing in health

Leading a dedicated team of approximately 100 practitioners, internists, and telemedicine doctors, Bomberová Kánská is passionate about promoting longevity and enhancing quality of life. “Personalized medicine is the future of healthcare. Each person is unique, shaped by distinct genetics and lifestyle factors. While we know we should strive to eat well, get enough sleep, and exercise, putting that knowledge into practice can be a challenge,” she acknowledges. At Canadian Medical, annual preventive check-ups include thorough examinations and tailored lifestyle recommendations, empowering clients to take proactive steps toward their health. “Investing in your health is the most meaningful decision you can make,” Bomberová Kánská emphasizes, underscoring the importance of care that meets each individual where they are on their health journey.
