Most common pediatric surgeries (such as hernia surgeries) are carried out as outpatient procedures, i.e. the child is released into home care 2-4 hours following surgery. Such surgical procedures are planned and carried out on children over the age of 2. More complex procedures such as laparoscopic surgeries are carried out as one-day surgeries. In such cases, the patient procedure is done on the first day and if all is well, they are released into home care on the second day.
Laparoscopic surgeries have a number of benefits. Following the procedure, the patient is left with three small scars (each only 0.5 – 1 cm long). This significantly lowers the level of pain following the surgery and the recovery is significantly shorter as well. Following laparoscopic surgery, children are able to quickly return to normal life and sport activities.
The journey to surgery often begins with a pediatrician or a specialist in pediatric urology, followed by an examination by a pediatric surgeon, pre-surgery examinations by a pediatrician and a consultation with a pediatric anesthesiologist.
When carrying out surgeries on children, we pay great attention to eliminating fear from the surgery as well as ensuring minimum stress factors on the child. This is achieved by educating the child as well as the parents, the presence of the parents prior to the surgery as well as during recovery from anesthesia. A major role is also played by a team of experienced pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and our friendly and pleasant nurses.
