How is the procedure carried out?
For the surgery to be carried out, the client must have clear reasons and the plastic surgeon always assesses the state and explains to the patient the options that are available and what results can be achieved. Generally speaking, the surgery is carried out under general anesthesia. After the procedure, the visible external scars disappear and the access to the tissues is usually directed through the nostrils (on the inside of the nose). The procedure loosen the soft tissue, cartilaginous and bone structures and to model them in order to remove the original defect. The procedure last approximately one hour. The final length of surgery depends largely on the scale of deformity and the complexity of the remodeling. Less demanding procedures involve amending the soft tissue and not changing the bone structure.
How long does recovery take?
The patient is released on the second day following the procedure and continue with home care. Immediately after the surgery is complete, tampons are inserted into the nose for a period of three to five days. At the same time, a splint support is placed externally to fix the position of the nose. Bones will heal within six to eight months and it is necessary to pay increased attention in the meanwhile. The nose must not be hit or pressure exerted against it. We do not recommend any exercise for a period of two months or to carry out any demanding physical activity when leaning forward. A mild swelling is common following the removal of the support splint and can last for several weeks. From the third week following surgery, the patient carries out special pressure massages at home. These are crucial for the final look of the nose. The result is permanent, but the final shape of the nose will settle after one year since the procedure was carried out.
