How is the procedure carried out?
The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia. The incision is carried out along the areole and then down vertically until the area where the breast meets the chest, sometimes continuing along this line. Excess skin is removed, the glandular tissue and fat tissue is reduced in size. Then the remaining tissue is remodeled and the aerola is moved up. The surgery lasts anywhere from two to three hours.
How long does recovery take?
The patient remains at the clinic for two days following the procedure and should rest for the first two weeks. Between he third and fifth day after surgery, the patient is invited back to have the area rebandaged and the stitches will absorb themselves. For a period of two months following surgery, hands should not be raised above 45 degrees. Additionally, patients should not undergo heavy physical activity that would involve the upper limbs, only sleeping on the back. Following surgery, scars that will look like thin lines will be visible on the breasts. They will fade in time, but will not disappear entirely. They will be apparent in the aerola area or from the aerola to the area where the breast meets the chest, or along it. This all depends on the extent of the procedure and its scope. The resulting effect is clear and the breasts will appear younger. The breasts will be permanently smaller and the effect is long-lasting.
