How is the procedure carried out?
During surgery, the patient is under general anesthesia and the procedure lasts between two to three hours. The surgeon makes and incision along the areole and then down vertically until the area where the breast meets the chest, sometimes continuing along this line. The length of the resulting scar depends on the extent of the breasts sagging. It can be just along the aerola or continue down to the area where the breast meets the chest, or along this line. The surgeon then remodels the glands, removes excess skin tissue and by shifting the aerola, performs a breast lift. If the remodeling of the breasts is connected with an augmentation, an implant is inserted under the gland or below the breast muscles.
How long does recovery take?
The patient is released into home care three days following the procedure and is should rest for at least two weeks. Yet again, the patient should not lift her arms and avoid physical activity. Between the third and fifth day, the patient is invited back in for rebandaging. The stitches do not need to be removed as they are made from a material that gets absorbed in time. The results are immediately visible. The breasts will moved upwards and will attain the requested shape and size. The scar gets lighter in time, but does not disappear entirely. The result is long-lasting.
