How is the procedure carried out?
The procedure is carried out under general anesthesia and lasts for approximately one hour. The patient, following a consultation with the surgeon, will decide on the procedure she wishes to undergo, resulting in the implants being inserted into the breast(s). The patient has the choice of implant insertion from below where the breast meets the chest, using the bottom part of the areola or from the armpit. The implant is placed below the gland or below the breast muscles.
How long does recovery take?
The patient should rest (no excessive physical activity) for at least two weeks. After this period passes, the patient can return back to work. However, full physical activity can be restored six weeks after surgery. Post-op swelling disappears by that time and the resulting effect is permanent. Within the first two months following surgery, the patient should avoid excercise and stressing the upper limbs. During this time, the patient should sleep only on her back.
