The symptoms of allergies are a result of an excessive reaction of the immune system to a substance, which in reality is not dangerous to the organism. This can include animal fur, pollen, grasses or some foods, namely their proteins. The amount of people with allergies is on a steady increase and doctors often find that despite knowing what a patient is allergic to, treatment does not always meet the patients’ expectations. A common cause remains to be the fact that many people are allergic to multiple substances, but existing methods are not able to determine the degree to which each substance causes health problems.
More than a hundred targeted antibodies
A new test named ImunnoCAP® ISAC can change that because it is far more accurate. While existing methods can determine for example that a person is allergic to mites and birch in combination with some food allergies, the new method allows for specifically and accurately identifying 112 IgE antibodies in 51 various allergy-causing substances.
In practice, this means that a person allergic to birch pollen may actually only be allergic to one of many proteins contained within the pollen itself. The situation is very similar with various grasses, nuts or saliva on the fur of animals. This new test method introduced by the Euroclinicum laboratories, is capable of identifying these concrete causes of allergic reactions. The resulting treatment can be far more effective.
In addition, with the ImunnoCAP® ISAC test, it is far easier to determine cross reactions with foods. Furthermore, it is possible to predict the likelihood of serious potential allergic complications. Patients can also find it interesting that they will be able to know what foods they can safely consume without any fear of an allergic reaction.
Only a drop of your blood
It is the most cutting-edge diagnostic test available, making use of biochip technologies and modern molecular allergology methods. This is why the test only requires a minute amount of blood. With children for example, a small sample of the blood can be taken from the tip of the finger. Doctors at the lab receive a detailed report with the results, allowing them to better assess the state of the patient’s health. For this purpose, the first existing support database interpretation system for molecular allergology diagnostics is used. The patient’s data is assessed anonymously while remotely accessing a specialized European database system.
What is the ImunnoCAP® ISAC test capable of?
- Showing a clear overview of the patient’s IgE antibodies profile
- Providing information about specific and cross reactions to allergens, which is essential for patients who are allergic to multiple substances
- Allowing doctors to more accurately target and recommend the correct treatment
- Assessing the level of risk with food allergies and helping in adjusting dietary recommendations
- Minimizing the risk of false positive results
