Several years after having completed her studies as a dietitian at the Secondary Nursing School and Nursing College in Prague, Jitka Tomešová worked at a counseling center, namely the Civic Association of Pediatric Nutrition. She then worked at the Thomayer Hospital at the internal medicine department (currently at the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Department (ARO)). Additionally, she also provided advice to athletes for the Enduraining organization.
She is the author of a wide array of popular educational and lifestyle articles about nutrition and she frequently lectures at both Czech and international conferences. Further, she teaches at the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague, where she herself completed her studies while working.
Nutritional counseling with a dietitian is useful not just for those interested in “mere” consultations to check their own eating habits with regards to a healthy lifestyle but also for those clients where good nutrition can help in the treatment of disease. These issues can include being overweight or suffering from being underweight, digestive tract diseases, diabetes, food allergies/intolerances as well as other problems affecting both children and adults.
