Mgr. Katarina Dujčíková was responsible for touring the entire facility with the delegation, introducing its premises and operations. Following the presentation, the group met with a group of Czech doctors. Both the Canadian and Czech doctors discussed Czech and Canadian medical care and each group gained new insight into how the two systems operate.
The Canadian doctors met with our specialists, namely MUDr. Silvie Knoppová, MUDr. Magdalena Kreimová, MUDr. Dorota Seuníková, MUDr. Marek Plánička and with managing director and recognized pediatrician, MUDr. Barbara Taušová, MBA.
One of the members of the Canadian delegation worked for Canadian Medical Centre which was founded in Ontario, Canada in June 1995 by a conglomerate of Canadian medical facilities MED-EMERG Inc. Mississauga. This medical facility became the first private medical facility in Prague which offered patients the services of both Czech and Canadian doctors. In 1998, the company passed into private ownership under the name Canadian Medical Care and MUDr. Barbara Taušová, MBA became the owner and managing director.
The Canadian medical system is based on an universal approach
The Czech doctors discovered interesting information about the Canadian medical care system which is based on the universal approach principle much like the one available here in the Czech Republic. Canada like the Czech Republic aims for equal access to medical care as well as offering the option of above-standard services which include dental care, psychological counseling, immunization and other services above the standard framework offered by universal insurance. In Canada, all services offered to the client that fall out of the universal system and insurance cover, carry an additional fee. For example, dental care is very expensive in Canada and is not covered by the universal insurance system. Some patients have additional private insurance to cover for any required dental care or psychological treatment. Canada is introducing an electronic card system as well as e-prescriptions. However, standard paper cards and prescriptions are still in use and overall, the system is not unified.
Future cooperation with Canadian clinics
Canadian doctors were highly interested in the Czech medical system. They were impressed by the comprehensively equipped clinic in Prague 6, Veleslavín. They pointed out the clean and friendly environment as well as pleasant staff members.
The Canadian Medical Care clinic left an excellent impression on the Canadian doctors and gained valuable contact information for private clinics in Canada – namely the Cleveland Clinic Canada as well as Medcan Clinic.
