Radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins and spider veins
Article10. 09. 2018 Angiology and Vascular Surgery
The miniinvasive radiofrequency ablation method (radiofrequency-induced thermotherapy) is very gentle to adjacent tissues and has perfect cosmetic results.
After the procedure, the patient is released home the same or the following day. The elastic bandage wears seven to ten days and returns to the work approximately one week later. The advantages of the radiofrequency ablation method in varices surgery (varicose veins) can be rapid healing, performance gentleness and perfect cosmetic results.
What is the principle of surgery?
Due to the radiofrequency energy emitted by the bipolar electrode (the probe), the varicose veins or spider veins are closed. The radio frequency probe is based on high frequency electromagnetic waves. Under the ultrasonography control it is introduced into a damaged vein in which an electric current is generated. This causes damage to the lining, contraction and conversion to the ligament strip, which is absorbed over time. This procedure lasts one to two minutes, does not hurt and is done without need of hospitalization. The tip of the applicator is rounded so that the venous tissue is not mechanically damaged, just as the electrical impedance of the tissue is measured over the entire duration of the procedure.
